Wow that is so cool. But I would still be careful. Sites like TSR have been known to include viruses in there content that can harm your computer.:)Ps. Its not 100% free though you still have to pay $2.99 to be a vip member of the site. That's a fee they are charging just to support the site. Has NOTHING to do with access to the content.
I believe the issues people were having as far as Viruses were not from the content on the site but instead from some of the Ads. If that's a concern just use Adblock. As far as the price it's optional you do not have to pay to download any of the files this just makes downloading faster. Wow that is great news! I currently have no custom content in my game and I have never downloaded anything from TSR however, with The Sims 3 winding down now I am looking to add some custom content to my game as I have my eye on a few things, some custom mermaid tails that are on TSR for a matter of fact, so it is great that I will now have access to all this great content should I wish to thank you! If anyone has any creators to recommend I would love to know!
I am particularly interested in fantasy themed clothing, hair and furniture to flesh out my occults. So anything appropriate for mermaids, fairies, witches, plant sims, vamps etc. Would be right up my alley PS-Where can I download Custard? I have a feeling I am going to have a lot of use for it in the near future. If you look at the size of the file, you can guess the lag it may cause.
Try to choose the smaller sized files. Going by the size of the file alone is a good rule of thumb when choosing a download file, especially for those that already have issues with lag.
However, in my situation this was not the case. I have hair files that far exceed the size of the ones that caused my lag. My point was just be careful. Don't assume just because Custard says it's ok that everything will be just fine. Install your new CC in a vanilla game and see how it looks and runs before moving it over to your main folder.
I would rather spend the few extra minutes double checking content then download it to my original game file and trying to figure out why it's lagging and/or having issues. This will save a lot of headache and hassle later on. Just a piece of advice. Take it or leave it.
Your advice is sound and I was no implying to circumvent that approach, just to add on to it. Larger size files will lag your game more than smaller sized files. For example, 4M hair on all the sims in a room can cause noticable more lag. I am starting a new sims 3 folder and installing in the fresh game to look at everything. If you look at the size of the file, you can guess the lag it may cause.

Sorry if I came across as defensive. I was just trying to clarify what happened in my game so others will use caution when downloading. Not just from TSR but any CC. I've been waiting for this moment for so long. 8) Time to go on CC downloading spree. As much as I hate downloading sims3pack files, (or downloading from TSR in general) there are admittedly some good creators there.
I wouldn't get too paranoid about bad CC, just be careful what you download (don't download items that look generally shifty, etc) and run your CC files through Custard, and you should be fine. I've never really liked the clothes at TSR, most of it looks photoskinned. Which is fine, but it's not for me.
So I'll be sticking to decor and build items for now. I found a pretty cool shabby chic decor set which I will definitely be using later.
Beware of romans bearing gifts. This /:hunf: I was going to post right after this went up but didn't. If you download from TSR, you really should run that stuff through Custard. TSR is infamous for cc that attaches to your stuff and creates abmominations in your game. It is definitely a case of 'buyer beware'.
Just a little comment.I used to have a subscription to TSR and downloaded quite a bit from there. While I've heard that other people have had problems but I never had one problem with content from there. I did however download some items from the exchange here and had some really terrible game breaking problems. Not everyone has had bad experiences at TSR. I agree with this-I too have never experienced any problems with TSR and was pleased to hear the news. Thank you, TSR!! I also agree with Seera1024-it's best to be cautious with any CC.
Wow that staircase is beautiful, I absolutely love how it looks at the top:shock: I had a quick skim through the site last night before I went to bed and already found some really awesome sets I would love to add to my game in addition to the custom mermaid tails I have my heart set on, there was a beautiful Arabian themed furniture set (exactly the style I was hoping would be released in the Store) which is much required for my genies and some absolutely beautiful castle decor sets. I can see why people love CC there is so much variety and a lot of it looks to be very high quality Keep posting pictures people, I need help deciding what to try out for my first 'CC Downloading Spree'. Thanks for your comments and feedback, it's all important to us. I'm glad to see that overall you are happy with all your new CC It's fair to say we had some teething problems, notably with images and downloads.
Images are much better now, we have 2 servers re-scaling around 5.5 million images to the new sizes and that was the cause of missing preview pictures. It's getting better all the time as these are processed.
Downloads had a bug affecting some older versions of browsers and this is now fixed too. Traffic spikes meant that we have needed to bring one more bandwidth server online and we are just adding another database server, so that should speed page loading up where database queries are required.
VIP Membership seems to be acceptable to some people but if you are happy to just use the site for free, please consider visiting any sponsors you see that might interest you. I know some people have commented on using ad blockers. All I would say there is, please consider that websites with overheads like ours are funded by these ads, if everyone blocked them, those sites would disappear. We don't use any popup ads on TSR and try to integrate ads as discreetly but prominently as we can. And don't worry, this isn't temporary, we won't be 'turning the site off' soon.
Also to answer some questions, yes our Featured Artists are still being paid to create for us and we have no plan to reduce the number we have, so the premium content will continue to be published daily. At this time we have no intention to start charging again when Sims 4 content becomes available, which is something else mooted around the community. Of course, you will probably need to wait for us to write the software to create Sims 4 CC anyway, so that's a good 15 months away! We don't foresee any problems here, and we do plan to create a Workshop for Sims 4, so the future is both bright and rosy Please do spread the word that TSR is now free in your communities. I'm absolutely aware of the stigma surrounding pay sites and we aren't about to turn against the remaining ones, that would be hypocritical of us, but we do thank you for your continued support for TSR /Steve.
